Objective Pathological Voice Quality Assessment Based on HOS Features
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work proposes new features to improve the pathological voice quality classification performance. They are the means, the variances, and the perturbations of the higher-order statistics (HOS) such as the skewness and the kurtosis. The HOS-based features show meaningful differences among normal, grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 voices classified in the GRBAS scale. The jitter, the shimmer, the harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR), and the variance of the short-time energy are utilized as the conventional features. The performances are measured by the classification and regression tree (CART) method. Specifically, the CART-based method by utilizing both the conventional features and the HOS-based ones shows its effectiveness in the pathological voice quality measurement, with the classification accuracy of 87.8%. key words: pathological voice quality assessment, higher-order statistics, classification and regression tree, GRBAS

Performance Improvement of Automatic Pathological Voice Quality Assessment Based on Higher-Order Statistics
This thesis presents new parameters based on the HOS (Higher-Order Statistics) analysis to improve the classification performance of a multi-stage pathological voice assessment system. Automatic pathological diagnosis is a field which still demands further investigation mainly due to the difficulty in quantifying or standardizing the speech pathologists’ diagnoses. In recent years, various spee...
متن کاملDeep Neural Networks for Voice Quality Assessment Based on the GRBAS Scale
In the field of voice therapy, perceptual evaluation is widely used by expert listeners as a way to evaluate pathological and normal voice quality. This approach is understandably subjective as it is subject to listeners’ bias which high interand intra-listeners variability can be found. As such, research on automatic assessment of pathological voices using a combination of subjective and objec...
متن کاملA two-stage approach using Gaussian mixture models and higher-order statistics for a classification of normal and pathological voices
A two-stage classifier is used to improve the classification performance between normal and pathological voices. A primary classification between normal and pathological voices is achieved by the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) log-likelihood scores. For samples that do not meet the thresholds for normal or disordered voice in the GMM, the final decision is made by a higher-order statistics (HOS)-...
متن کاملSpectral and Cepstral Based Acoustic Features of Voices with Muscle Tension Dysphonia
Muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) is a voice disorder that occurs as a result of misuse or abuse of the voice [1]. While there is no neurological damage to the larynx nor any structural abnormality present, patients with MTD have limitations in vocal vibrations due to laryngeal muscle tension. Consequently, such patients demonstrate pathological voice problems, such as hoarseness, strained and str...
متن کاملGuidelines to Evaluate Human Observational Studies for Quantitative Risk Assessment
BACKGROUND Careful evaluation of the quality of human observational studies (HOS) is required to assess the suitability of HOS for quantitative risk assessment (QRA). In particular, the quality of quantitative exposure assessment is a crucial aspect of HOS to be considered for QRA. OBJECTIVE We aimed to develop guidelines for the evaluation of HOS for QRA and to apply these guidelines to case...
